For the 8th time the Lithuanian Association of Cinematographers held its annual award ceremony to honor the work of cinematographers as well as other members of the Lithuanian film industry and to present awards for the best cinematographers’ works of the year. The ceremony took place in the beautiful church of Saint Catherine in the old town of Vilnius.
This year the winners were chosen by an international jury: film director, recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts, and president of the Lithuanian Filmmakers union Gytis Luksas, film director and cinematographer Kornelijus Matuzevicius who has made over 70 films and has received a LAC lifetime achievement award, film critic Neringa Kazukauskaite, cinematographer Vilius Maciulskis and Prague’s FAMU film school alumnus Klaus Fuxjäger who has been working in Hollywood productions as well as independent films and commercials for over two decades. The “Oak” for the best work of a cinematographer in Lithuanian film went to Saulius Lukosevicius for the documentary Paradise Gowns directed by Albina Griniute. The award was presented by the former president of the association Rimvydas Leipus who said the jury decided to give the award because of the film’s “subtle visuals and the cinematographer’s ability to combine artistic as well as technical solutions”.
Ok so this is real. Our film “Paradise Gowns” won Critics’ choice Award and Best Documentary Award in cinematographer’s Vilmos Zsigmond film festival! It’s umbelievable when jury members such as Szabo Gabor (HSC), who worked with Vilmos, Nigel Walters (BSC), who is a former president of Imago, french director Pierre Filmon (jury member at Cannes 2017), editor Miklos Mari (“The Revolt of Job” which was nominated in oscars) and professor Saghy Miklos is shaking your hand and saying good things about your film, so believe me – this is serious and this is important awards to us!
http://zsigmondvilmosfilmfest.com/en/films/archive Going back to Berlinale after 5 years as alumni talent was not just about the insiprational and emotional flows, but most importantly meeting the old and the new friends! Some of them had premieres, the others were participating in talents and so on. See you next year!
